Randomness, Agility + Riding Fun

Thu Apr 9, 2009, 2:40 PM
I just want to replace the old journal entry - I get bored of staring at the same thing for weeks on end :P

I'm on school holidays at the moment, so I'll be uploading a few new pieces over this week and next week, hopefully I won't be annoying too many people with my scribbles!

I'm going to an Agility show this weekend! I've never been to a proper agility show, I've been to conformation shows (although that was quite a few years ago), but never to something more fun and active like Agility! I'm really excited anyway, because it'll be Collie heaven! I really love Smooth Collies, there are so many positive things about them, but obviously my mum doesn't like them (she's obsessed with stupid breed stereotypes e.g. all collies are nippy and can't be trained out of it, can't go around children because they'd try herding them etc.) so I know I'll never own one until I move out. Only thing is, even if we did get a collie, I'd have to make sure she never tried training them. I've heard that they get quite... stubborn with 'rougher' (as in... Dominant? I don't know how to describe it properly) training tecniques, like the ones which mum has had to use on our English Bull Terriers :XD:

Anyway, a friend of mums owns 2 collies (one is young so it's still in training) and there is a training club next week, and she's taking both the dogs so that I can take the older one around the course. I'm excited, but don't know the first thing about actually doing Agility xD Once I've finished my next drawing ('tis a secret to anyone who doesn't play Furry-Paws) I'll have to do plenty of research.

Onto my riding lesson. I've been riding for 5 years now, only 6 months at the first were spent getting proper lessons, the next 4 years-ish were spent just hacking. About 3 months ago I started getting proper lessons again (only twice a month unfortunately), so I've actually started riding properly! But on my last lesson, we did bounce jumps (the ones with no strides in between) and there were two set at 1ft, and the last bounce was 2 ft 0.o That was the highest I've ever jumped, and it felt great :D I hope we get to jump again next lesson. We often get stuck doing flatwork because there are only two teenagers (one of which is myself) in the group, and the remaining 3-4 are adults, who are worried about jumping and falling off, so we don't jump every lesson.

Then, after we did the jumps, we took the saddles off and went bareback for 10 minutes :D I was surprised my instructor actually let us. It was great, but I was on Jess, who is really bony x_x

Right, Journal Spam over ;) I'm just in a REALLY good mood at the moment, it seems these two weeks off aren't as boring as I thought they were going to be!
